Ekhyddan-Barkeryd

The national grid needs to be strengthened in northern Småland following the expansion and power increase that has been implemented at the Oskarshamn nuclear power plant.

The strengthening is necessary to maintain operational reliability in the Swedish electricity system and the disruption tolerance in block 3 of the nuclear power plant. Analyses carried out by Svenska Kraftnät show that a 400 kV AC (Alternating Current) power line between the Ekhyddan station, which we are currently building close to the power plant, and the Barkeryd station that we are planning to build around 10 km north of Nässjö, is the solution which best results in the required disruption tolerance and operational reliability being achieved.

The line between the two stations is also significant for the plans for a new electricity link between Gotland and the mainland.

The line will be around 150 km long. We estimate that the Ekhyddan-Barkeryd line will be in operation at the end of 2016.
