Procurement of automatic Frequency Restoration Reserve (aFRR) in Q1/2019
The Nordic TSOs have decided to continue with procurement of a total volume up to 300 MW during weekdays (Monday to Friday) in Q1/2019 (January-March).
The basis for the procurement is the agreed goal for frequency quality level, and the TSOs will continue to procure aFRR in the morning and evening hours where the frequency variations are most challenging. An evaluation will be done for each quarter of the year.
The procurement schedule until week 52 will follow the earlier published information.
Starting from from Monday 31 December 2018, aFRR will be procured in the following hours:
- weeks 1-8, morning hours 4:00-8:00 (CET), evening hours 16:00-20:00 (CET)
- weeks 9-13, morning hours 4:00-8:00 (CET), evening hours 17:00-21:00 (CET)
Information about the procurement for Q2/2019 will follow in March.
The Nordic TSOs have further agreed on a plan to increase aFRR procurement in order to prepare for the new Nordic balancing concept and implementation of ACE, see previous information Plan to increase automatic Frequency Restoration Reserve (aFRR)
The implementation of the Nordic aFRR capacity market is now expected in Q3/2019.
