Power reserve

During very cold winter days there may occasionally be situations where electricity consumption looks set to exceed production. In these situations planned resources are not enough. Then we must turn to the reserves that we have purchased in advance.

The so-called power reserve is built up by making contracts with actors in the electricity market. We can enter into contracts with power generators that have backup power plants. This type of contract states that the electricity generator will provide additional electricity generation. We can also enter into contracts with large electricity users and electricity suppliers, but in this case the agreements concern reducing their electricity consumption. The power reserve must be available between 16 November and 15 March, i.e. during the coldest season.
