Steady course towards a Nordic mFRR energy activation market

On December 3 this year, an automated Nordic mFRR energy activation market comes into effect. The preparations are in full swing and in order to coordinate, Svenska kraftnät invited actors in the market to a meeting on Thursday, January 18.

Approximately 40 people attended the meeting at the Stockholm Waterfront.

The program consisted of a deep dive into the mFRR energy activation market, with a particular focus on implementation and a review of the implementation guide that Svenska kraftnät provides.

Another section was about the joint test strategy and test plan – a key to the success of the mFRR energy activation market implementation.

Shorter briefings were also held on ECP (Energy Communication Platform), BSP Data Access Network for mFRR EAM and bid attributes.

The conclusions after the meeting:

  • There is clear progress in all parts.
  • Although the timetable is ambitious, there is a close, continuous dialogue and a common belief among the parties concerned that a Nordic mFRR energy activation market will be introduced on December 3, 2024.
  • The mFRR energy activation market is a central piece of the puzzle in a new Nordic balancing model, which contributes to a more sustainable, competitive and interconnected electricity market in the Nordic countries.

Represented at the meeting were Axpo, Bixia, Fortum, Hansen Technologies, Jämtkraft, Modity Energy Trading, Mälarenergi, Siemens, Skellefteå Kraft, Statkraft, Statnett, TietoEvry, Uniper, Vattenfall and Volue.
