Svenska kraftnät increases the FCR-D down procurement in 2025
FCR-D down is an automatic ancillary service that stabilizes the frequency in the event of a disturbance (downward regulation). The FCR-D down procurement will be increased with 54 MW in 2025. This means FCR-D will be procured for all hours, with a volume of up to 524 MW.
Starting from 1 January 2025, up to 524 MW FCR-D down will be procured for all hours, which is an increase of 54 MW compared to Q4 2024.
This increase of procurement volume will be the last increase in the ramp-up of the FCR-D down market. The procurement volume of 524 MW corresponds to Svenska kraftnät share of the Nordic volume requirement of 1400 MW.
The dimensioning of FCR-D downward is based on the actual reference incident in Nordic synchronous area and may therefore vary throughout the year. The maximal Nordic demand is dimensioned for full export on any of the two subsea interconnectors Nordlink and North Sea Link.
The Swedish share of the Nordic requirement is determined by the key factor that is based on the yearly total generation (TWh) and consumption (TWh) in each control area.
