Grid development
Sweden has one of the world's oldest national grids. Many of our lines and stations are nearing the end of their technical lifetime and must soon be renewed. We are also building new lines and stations to strengthen the national grid.
Driving forces
We are expanding and strengthening the national grid for several reasons. Society needs a robust national grid for a secure electricity supply, we need new national grid lines and stations to enable renewable electricity production and the grid is a prerequisite for a common European electricity market.

It takes between five and ten years from the planning stage until a new line is completed. This includes the consultation process, concession, construction work and the commissioning.
