HVDC-cables between Sweden and Denmark are being renewed
Together with Energinet, Svenska kraftnät is replacing the existing HVDC-connections Konti-Skan 1 and 2 between south west of Sweden and Jutland in Denmark. The renewal is needed to maintain a reliable transmission between the countries.
Between Lindome south of Gothenburg and Vester Hassing on Jutland in Denmark, the high-voltage direct current (HVDC) links Konti-Skan 1 and 2 are located. The links are aged and are expected to reach their technical lifespan in the mid-2030s. In order to maintain reliable transmission between the countries, Svenska kraftnät, together with Energinet, is planning to replace the two links with a new modern HVDC-link.
The new HVDC-link will have a transmission capacity of 1000 MW (previously 715 MW). The existing links Konti-skan 1 and 2 are expected to remain in operation until the new link is completed.
Project of Common Interest
The interconnector between Sweden and Denmark and the increast capacity are of great benefit to the entire Nordic electricity market. The renewal is needed to maintain a reliable transmission between the countries.

About the project
Svenska kraftnät, together with our Danish counterpart Energinet, is planning to renew the HVDC-cables Konti-Skan 1 and 2 with a new modern cable. The existing connections are expected to reach their technical lifespan in the mid-2030s and in order to maintain a reliable electricity transmission between Denmark and Sweden (SE3 and DK1), a renewal is necessary.
Technology: 1000 MW high-voltage direct current (HVDC)
Stations: Lindome, south of Gothenburg and Vester Hassing on Jutland in Denmark.
Investment cost: The costs are shared equally between Svenska kraftnät and Energinet. For Svenska kraftnät, the cost is provisionally estimated at SEK 6,500 million
