New business package to renew and strengthen the electricity transmission grid in the Uppsala area

Svenska kraftnät is now taking the next step to accelerate electrification in Sweden through our initiatives in the Uppsala area, which stretches from Mehedeby in Tierp municipality to Odensala in Sigtuna municipality. The procurement of the business package will be published during the first quarter of 2026.

The new transmission lines will modernize the national grid, while increasing the transmission capacity to enable a higher power output in the area.

The lines will be constructed as two parallel overhead lines at 400 kV over a distance of approximately 100 kilometers, as well as approximately 10 kilometers of overhead lines at 220 kV. We will also build a shorter section with underground cable, as well as decommissioning 160 kilometers of old lines that are approaching the end of their technical lifespan.

The Uppsala package is an important part of the energy transition in Sweden and will contribute to a more flexible and reliable transmission grid.
